Deze willen de grond gebruiken voor veeteelt en landbouw. Vooral genetisch gemanipuleerde soja - die kan beter tegen pesticides - wordt geteeld als veevoeder. Niet erg vegan maar ook niet bepaald gezond.
Nu blijkt dat de grond, na verwijdering van bomen en planten, slechts tijdelijk gebruikt kan worden. De bodem is dus niet zo vruchtbaar dan men dacht, zeker niet voor de gewassen die men er op wil kweken.
We weten dat het regenwoud niet alleen het klimaat mee reguleert maar tevens een schat is aan vele boomsoorten, insecten, plantensoorten, zoogdieren, vogels, enz. Maar ook bananen, chocolade, koffie, om er enkele te noemen, vinden hun oorsprong in het Amazonegebied. Minder bekend is dat geneeskrachtige planten als grondstoffen dienen voor medicijnen.
De inheemse volkeren hebben al meermaals opgeroepen om te stoppen met kappen, ik kan alleen maar hopen dat gezond verstand het uiteindelijk wint van het geld.
Uit respect voor alle leven creëerde ik dit magisch tafereel, een ode aan de biodiversiteit op één van de mooiste plekken van deze planeet.
Voor 2020 wensen mijn echtgenoot Robert en ikzelf jullie harmonie in je leven, liefde in je hart en de nodige kracht om de uitdagingen die op je pad komen het hoofd te kunnen bieden.

Past year, one of the headlines showed us an outbreak of fierce fires in the Amazon, frequently started by farmers and landlords.
They want to use the land for stockbreeding and agriculture. Geneticaly modified soy - this variety is more resistant to pesticides - is grown for animal feed. Not very vegan but not exactly healthy either.
It now appears that after removal of the trees and plants, the soil can only be used temporarily. Apparently the soil is not as fertile as people thought, certainly not for the crops they want to grow.
We know that the rainforest not only regulates the climate but as well contains a treasure of tree species, insects, plants, mammals, birds, etc.
But also bananas, chocolate, coffee, to name a few, find their origins in the Amazon. Lesser known however very important is the use of medicinal plants serving as raw materials for medicines.
The indigenous people have repeatedly appealed to stop cutting down trees, I can only hope that common sense will ultimately win over money.
Out of respect for all life, I created this magical scene, an ode to the biodiversity in one of the most beautiful places on this planet.
